Here are 7 great tips from our team here at Northern Buckeye Lawn & Landscape. Our team goes above and beyond to ensure you get all the care you deserve! We also like to provide you as much information as possible for your lawn care needs! Below you will find a list of 7 lawn care tips to green up your lawn this season!

  1. Set up an effective fertilizer and weed control plan for your lawn. If you are lawn savvy, this could be a great DIY project during spring and summer. If not, it is highly recommended you consult a professional, especially if you have concerns with kids or pets and their interactions with your lawn chemicals.

  2. Setup and adhere to a strict watering schedule, preferably in the morning before 10 AM or after 6 PM. The sun evaporates water rather quickly, before it can soak down into the root zone in your soil. Some experienced lawn pros may say evening watering is OK, but it may cause disease if the grass remains wet after the sun sets.

  3. Water thoroughly to properly hydrate your lawn. You should saturate the first 6-8 inches of soil in what we like to call the “root zone”. This can be checked in an inconspicuous portion of your yard using a small shovel or a long screwdriver.

  4. Try dry raking and over-seeding. Start by raking your grass, scratching and loosening the topsoil. Follow up with local grass species seed, using a spreader to thicken grass and help push out weeds.

  5. Pre-emergents should used to treat annual weed species. This can prove to be a cost effective method in early season control, but does inhibit over-seeding for a period of time.

  6. Keep your yard debris and clipping free. Even the best fertilizers can’t work if they don’t make it to the roots. Particles as small as blades of glass can stop nutrients from getting where they need to be.

  7. Fall aeration will allow your soil to breathe, drain better and take in more nutrients. These 3 key reasons are how we like to shut down our lawns every season, simply because it gives the best possible start for the following year.
